Granite and quartz countertops can look and feel similar, but there are key differences. Quartz is a manufactured material that uses real stone combined with other ingredients to make it durable, scratch resistant, and heat resistant.

Granite is a natural stone that also possesses those characteristics. Compared to marble, granite is harder and less porous, so it’s easier to maintain, and offers the natural look and feel that many homeowners love.

Every project is different, and there are many variables that go into determining the total cost. The most significant factors are the size of the countertop and the style that you choose. We’ve written in-depth articles on the cost of granite and the cost of quartz countertops for anyone comparing the two.

As a rough estimate, fully installed granite or quartz countertops usually cost in the $8,000-10,000 range.

Yes, we offer financing on countertop projects. For qualified candidates, we offer 12-month deferred interest loans, which means if you pay it off within a year, you won’t pay any interest.

Quartz and granite countertops are extremely popular kitchen countertop choices in large part because of how simple to maintain they are. Both are easy to clean and difficult to scratch.

Quartz is a manmade material, so it’s engineered to be durable, scratch and heat resistant, and low maintenance. It has the look and feel of more expensive materials like marble, except it’s non-porous and doesn’t require sealing. Granite, though not as porous as marble, does require sealing, but the process is simple. When done properly, granite is nearly as low maintenance as quartz.

Check out our article “Are Granite and Quartz Low Maintenance?” for more information on how these two countertop materials compare.

Quartz countertops are designed to be easy to clean. For most situations, you shouldn’t need more than soap and water or a mild all-purpose cleaner.

Try to avoid using harsh cleaners if possible. Frequent use of harsh or acidic cleaners can cause the color of quartz countertops to dull over time, so avoid using things like vinegar, ammonia, bleach, or baking soda.

There are a few possible causes for countertop discoloration. Sometimes discoloration is simply leftover residue from soap or cleaning agents, so make sure you’re removing it all with water at the end of your cleaning process.

Houses with hard water might also find periodic built-up mineral stains or deposits. This is more of an issue with natural countertop materials like marble or granite – so if you know you have hard water, a quartz countertop might be a better choice for you.

Acid can also lead to eventual stains or discoloration. Acidic cleaners should be avoided if possible, and juices like lemon juice or orange juice and sodas should be cleaned up as soon as possible.
