4 Steps To Loving Your Kitchen Counter Material Selection

What happens if you select slabs and then decide you don’t like them? It depends at what point you have this epiphany!

This is one decision you really need to get right before your fabricator starts sawing up your slab(s) because it’s yours once the saw starts whirring.

The good news is that it doesn’t ever need to, nor does it often happen in real life.

Here are four ways to help assure that you will be thrilled with your selection once it’s installed.

  1. Hire a designer. If you feel you can’t decide which countertop material to choose, reach out to a professional designer.
  2. Bring samples. Most people do just fine if they bring samples of flooring, paint, and cabinets when they shop for stone.
  3. Ask your fabricator if they can help you select stone. While the final decision is always yours, fabricators work with stone every day and have a good feel for what works and what doesn’t.
  4. Insist on participating in the layout at your fabricator’s shop so you can see your selection in a different environment, under different lighting, and in the horizontal plane. Bring a trusted friend or family member along, too. You still have time to change your mind at this point.

By this time, you should feel comfortable approving the stone and layout. If not, you can still change your mind without incurring additional expense.

What Happens If You Don’t Like The Look Once It’s Installed?

You really don’t want to go there because destroying new counters and starting over is expensive. A less expensive alternative might be to change your paint, backsplash, or even flooring to create a look that works with your new counters.

One way to help ensure you choose the right kitchen counter material is fully comparing material options, like granite and quartz. With our FREE Granite vs. Quartz Material Guide, you can easily determine which material is best for your budget, lifestyle, and needs.
