2. Selecting Your Material

Choosing the Right Surface

The first step in the process is selecting the material that best suits your aesthetic preferences, lifestyle, and budget. Popular options include natural stones like granite, quartzite, and marble, or engineered materials such as quartz and porcelain. Each material has its unique properties, colors, and patterns.

We know that selecting your slab can be confusing and overwhelming. That’s why we have relationships with some of the best granite and quartz suppliers around Portland, who offer a huge variety of styles and colors. We will help you find the perfect slab for your project.

Visit Showrooms

We want you to make as informed a choice as possible and the key to doing that is gathering as much information as you can. We encourage you to consult with fabricators and visit showrooms or slab yards to see and feel the materials in person. This will give you a better idea of color variations, textures, and the overall look of the slabs. And, we’re confident you’ll find Crowley’s is the best choice in terms of options and expertise.

3. Measurement & Templating

Crowley’s will involve you in the layout process to ensure that you know where seams may fall, how stone patterns flow across the pieces in your space, and ensure you know what your finished stone counters will look like.

Accurate Measurements

Once you’ve chosen your material, the next step is precise measurement and templating. A professional will visit your home to measure your existing countertops and create a template. This template acts as a detailed guide for cutting the new countertop to ensure a perfect fit.

Digital Templating

Modern templating often involves digital tools that create a highly accurate model of your countertop layout. This ensures that every curve, edge, and cutout is accounted for, reducing the risk of errors.

Seams and Supports

If the countertop requires seams, they are carefully planned to be as inconspicuous as possible. Additional supports may be planned, especially for overhangs and heavier materials.

Layout Process

We invite each homeowner to participate in a virtual layout process via Zoom, giving you an opportunity to share your style and preferences with our team.

5. Fabrication: Cutting, Edge-machining & Polishing

We have the latest in cutting-edge equipment and an experienced, talented team to create a high-quality finished product for your kitchen. We cut your counters, put the edge detail on, polish every edge, and seal your countertops all before they leave our shop. Our perfected process ensures a quick turnaround time with the attention to detail you deserve.

6. Installation Prep

Before installation begins, the site must be prepared. The existing countertops are removed, and the cabinets are checked for levelness. Shimming or other preparatory work may be necessary to ensure a stable base for the new countertop.

7. Installation

Transporting the Slab

The fabricated countertop slabs are transported to your home. Given their size and weight, this step requires careful handling to prevent damage and ensure their safe movement into the installation space. Rolling ramps, hydraulic lifts, and trailer gantries all help in this process.

Setting the Countertop

The slabs are carefully set in place, aligning with the templates created earlier. Installers use silicone adhesive to secure the countertop to the cabinets and ensure a solid bond, and industrial two-part epoxies with pigments to secure any seams.

Final Adjustments

Installers make any final adjustments to ensure the countertop fits perfectly and is level. They also attach any additional components.

8. Enjoying Your New Countertop

Final Inspection

Conduct a final inspection with the installer to ensure everything is to your satisfaction. Check for any issues with seams, edges, or the overall fit. If you have any questions, while the installers are still on site is the perfect time to ask.

Care and Maintenance

Your installer will provide guidelines for caring for and maintaining your new countertop. Follow our granite care or quartz care recommendations to keep your countertop looking beautiful for years to come.
